Mr. Barton died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
A retired teacher with the Mayfield Independent school system, Mr. Barton was a past state representative. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 26.
He held membership in the Rotary Club, Graves County Historical Society, and Tilghman-Beauregard Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Several cousins survive.
His parents were Reece Houston and Jean Carter Barton.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday at Byrn Funeral Home.
