William C. Alston Jr. was born September 8, 1913 in Gillam, Arkansas. Shortly after that, his family moved to Checotah, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Oklahoma and the OU School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. degree in 1937. During World War II he served as a flight surgeon with the 34th Bombardment Group in England. While taking special medical training prior to his assignment overseas, he met Albertine Reynolds and they were married on February 28, 1944. They enjoyed 61 years together before her death last year on June 29, 2005. In 1953, Dr. Alston moved his family to Tulsa and established a practice in general surgery. He initially practiced at Hillcrest and St. John's hospitals and then at St. Francis when it opened. He retired from medical practice in 1985. Dr. Alston was also an avid orchid hobbyist and long time member of the Tulsa Orchid Society. He is survived by two sons and their wives, William C. Alston III, Lexington, Kentucky and Robert M. Alston, Dallas, Texas; by 3 lineal grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and by 2 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.
