A Founder of the American Guild of Organists, James Warren Andrews was born on April 6, 1860, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He held his first post as organist at age twelve in Swampscott, Massachusetts. When 16, he became organist of the First Baptist Church, Lynn, Massachusetts, and of Boston Street Methodist Church. Andrews was later organist of Old Trinity Church, Newport, Rhode Island (1879-88), Pilgrim Church, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1888-91), Plymouth Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota (1891-98), and Church of the Divine Paternity, New York City (1898-1932). Andrews was warden of the AGO from 1913 to 1916. He died at his home in Grantwood, New Jersey, at the age of 71 on January 18, 1932. His widow, two sons, a daughter, and his 91-year-old mother survived him.
