US Congressman. Born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, he attended Hall’s Military Academy, graduated from Marshall College in 1842, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845 and commenced to practice law in Bedford, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1850-51, 1862-63) and a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1868. In 1869, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1871 and reelected to the Forty-third Congress, serving (1873-75). Not a candidate for renomination, he served as a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, in 1892 and practiced of law until his death at age 72 in Bedford, Pennsylvania.
