John is a son of Peter Moses Clark and Martha Rozella Hall. He is the second of six children born to them.
John enlisted in the US Army on October 2, 1917 during World War I. He was discharged August 18, 1919.
After the war, John married Floella Robison on January 16, 1920 in Rexburg, Idaho. They became parents to seven children: Mary Orlena, Wallace Everett, Alta Virginia, Reva Glenda, Stella Faye, Gay Nell, and Bayne Jay.
John farmed in Archer and Lyman.
