On October 23, 1912, he was united in marriage to Martha Oyer. To this union were born six children. Baby Kathryn, Irene, Roy, Viola, Bonnie and Donald. Baby Kathryn preceded him in death.
He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior 19 years ago and united with the Eden Missionary Church and remained true to the church until the Lord called him to his eternal home.
Funeral services were held at the Eden Church, Friday, September 15, with Rev. Ezra Zimmerman officiating, assisted by Albert Rousselle. Burial was in Eden Cemetery with V.B. Johnston Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jake Bley, Ed Nowka, Fred Duhm, Sam Gauger, Ed Rousselle and Frank Maris. Music was furnished by the male quartette, Verl Kitt, Melvin Judd, Ralph Carpenter and Elmer Carpenter who sang "Near to the Heart of God," "Constantly Abiding" and "No Disappointment in Heaven," with Mrs. Emerson Schwenk at the piano.
