Ackley Hamilton "A.J." Johnson, 80, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born May 13, 1931 in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of Hugh V. Johnson, Sr. and Annie Ash Johnson.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Johnson worked as a meat cutter for A&P Grocery Stores until his retirement in 1985, he then worked as a nursing assistant for the elderly. He attended the Market Street United Methodist Church.

Mr. Johnson married Anne Henry on August 28, 1987 in Winchester.

Along with his wife, Anne, he is survived by two sons, Randall W. Johnson and wife Dana of Midlothian, Virginia, Andrew N. Johnson and wife Carrie of Strasburg, Virginia; one stepson, Stephen T. Jenkins, Sr. and wife Becky of White Post, Virginia; three grandchildren, Kyle A. Johnson and Logan F. Johnson, both of Strasburg, Virginia and Eden V. Johnson of Midlothian, Virginia; and two step-grandchildren, Stephen T. Jenkins, Jr., of White Post and Shane W. Jenkins, of Martinsburg, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by one stepson, Dennis C. Jenkins, Jr.; three sisters, Tacy, Nellie and Ethel; and four brothers, Hugh Jr., Clarence, Walter and Eppa.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2011, at the Jones Funeral Home from 2-4:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Nelson officiating. Entombment will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
