SEMI-WEEKLY INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KENTUCKY, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1884
After a long illness of that dread disease, consumption, Mr. Walter W. Owsley, Jr., passed from death unto life at 3 o'clock yesterday morning, surviving his father, Mr. Asher Owsley, who died of the same disease, but little over fourteen months. Two years ago, a handsome and stouter, healthier or happier boy could have hardly been found than he who has been cut down in the morning of life and now lies cold in death, a mere shadow of his former self. The terrible monster coming even at an advanced stage of life, strikes awe and grief to the friends of the victim, but when he lays his icy hands on the young and promising, his presence is the more appalling and his work the more deplorable. Hardly 23 years of age, plentifully supplied with the means to which men took for happiness, and the comfort and pride of a widowed mother, whose heart is now bowed down by this increased weight of woe, his death is one of the saddest that we have ever recorded. But His ways are mysterious and blessed is the christian who can believe He doeth all things well. That consolation and the further fact that the deceased was fully prepared and anxious and willing to go are left to his weeping mother and friends and may God sanctify it to their hearts. The funeral discourse will be preached by Rev. H.C. Morrison at 10:30 this morning, after which his remains will be laid beside his father's in Buffalo Cemetery.
