Grover Cornelius grew up in Wyoming, DE but moved to Dover after he married.
He was very active in the community: member of the Rotary Club, Church Trustee, served on the Dover Chamber of Commerce. He & his family were members of Peoples Christian Church in Kent Co., DE.
Grover Cornelius held various jobs as a young man: bank teller with Farmer's Bank of Dover & book keeper for H. Ridgely Harrington. Later, he was co-owner of Walter D. Ross Livestock Feed Co. - after that, owner of a fruit broker company. In 1927 he merged his fruit broker business with his father & brother's fruit businesses to form A. J. Frear & Sons Fruit Co. Grover Cornelius also owned the Dover Ice Cream Company from 1922-1926.
