Letter from Mrs. J. L. McLaren dated May 7, 1969 to local historian Mervin Schaaf said: "I am the sister of Zena Briggs of Hancock and Frank of Avoca. My grandfather was Thomas F. Davis, and he married the niece of John Krutzinger who ran the mill. My mother went to the Newtown school, and my grandfather Davis is buried in the old cemetery. His stone is gone."

In an article in the local newspaper, it also said: "Her grandfather, Dexter Briggs, came here from Vermont and farmed and ran a green house across the road from the Elsie Hinz farm. Her other grandfather was Thomas Davis and he came to Newtown in 1853 from Halifax, Nova Scotia. His wife Sarah Vigus was brought here by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Krutzsinger, when 6 months old in a covered wagon."
