Francis A Baity was the son of Mary T Joiner and her husband, David H Baity of Davie, NC. His siblings were George W, Mary C, John Wesley, Elizabeth Catherine Hoots, and Amanda J Beck.

On Oct 11, 1854 he became the husband of Eliza Cranfill, daughter of Nathan Cranfill and Omie Honor Trivett. This union was blessed with David Nathan, Andrew Fuller, Laura Belle Hendrix, John Wesley, and Henry Fletcher.

" Frances A Baity: Co H 63rd Reg, (5th Cavalry) enlisted at age 32 7-14-1862 in Davie Co. Mustered in as a corporal. Reported wounded and taken prisoner, Upperville, VA, according to the May-June muster rolls. No Federal Provost records found relating to his capture/release. Present and accounted for until admitted to a Richmond Virginia Hospital with a gunshot wound on the right hip on 9-22-1863. He was furloughed for 60 days on 30 Sept 1863. Present thru Dec 1864."
