In the passing of Warren Ratliff at the Smith County Hospital Friday, this community loses a highly respected and good citizen.
..Mr. Ratliff had been in poor health the past two years and for five weeks had been critically ill, being a patient in the Beloit and Smith Center hospitals for treatment of a heart ailment.
..Warren Almond, son of Isaac and Rebecca Ratliff, was born on April 17, 1885, near Allamead, Lincoln county, Kansas, and passed away at the hospital in Smith Center, Kansas September 10, 1948 at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 24 days.
..In 1906, Warren, was baptized and received into membership of the Church of Christ at Asherville, Kans. He was united in marriage to Miss Josephine L. Mace on October 24th., 1906, at Beloit, Kansas. To this union were born six children. An infant daughter, Cleo May, preceded the father in death.
..Those who survive to the memory of a devoted husband and father are: his wife, Josephine; his four sons, Wayne, Reid, Junior and Eldon, all of Kensington, one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Nickel, of Saint Francis, Kansas.
..Fifteen grandchildren; two sistern, Mrs. Elsie Deeter of Independence, Mo., and Mrs. Hattie Olson of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Reno Ratliff, of Winfield, La.; other relatives and a large group of friends, are left to mourn his departure.
..His father, mother, and one brother, Frank, of Portis, have preceded him in death.
..Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Monday afternoon September 13, at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. F. M. McDonald in charge. Mrs. Denzel Hefner, Mrs. Gladys Davis, Louie Seemann and Burton Badenhop sang the funeral hyms, with Mrs. Earl Womer accompanist. The flower bearers were, Lois Hrabe, Vera Levengood, Marion Ratliff, Doris Stephens, Martha Kessler, Lucille Schoeni and Coleen Ratliff. The body bearers were Chester Schoeni, Wayne Schoeni, Ray Schoeni, Harley Stephens, John Badenhoop and Art Dettmer. Interment was made in the Olive Branch Cemetery, with Simmons-Olliff the Funeral Directors.
