Was a owner of Woodyard Weeklies with brothers William (Bill) and Henry Chapman Woodyard, Jr. Woodyard Weeklies was one of the larges chains of Weekly Newspapers in America. With the help of Spruille Bradem, they raised the capital they needed to acquire weekly papers in Long Island and other areas to add to the chain of weeklies they already owned in WV.

They brothers got their start when in 1920 when their Congressman father acquired the Times-Recorder, Spencer, WV. The brothers learned the newspaper business by running the Times-Record. This hands on experience taught them the skills required to be both shrewd and profitable.
