RE: Joyce Ann Zeiters Memorial #76339062

Joyce was my sister-in-law. She was born in San Diego, CA. and died in McKinleyville, CA. She died of cancer. She was very passionate about raising money for cancer by quilting. Here is a link to some information about her: http://relay.acsevents.org/site/DocServer/Joyce_Quilt_3-24.pdf?docID=136520
Joyce Zeiters and this Quilt
“Joyce Zeiters was honored at the 2007 Relay For Life as a three time cancer survivor. She stated her reasons to Relay which included her hope for her daughter: “I don’t ever want her to hear the words that she has cancer. I want cures or Vaccines to be found…”

She was proud her Relay team had been honored as Rookie Team of the Year and was in the top 15 fundraising teams every year since. We were proud to work with Joyce for the Quilt Guild and for Relay. She was again diagnosed with cancer and died in September 2010, and we miss her. Joyce selected the bright, cheerful fabric specifically to make this Relay fundraiser quilt.

Joyce and her friend Chris selected the pattern
Chickens on the Courthouse Steps from Fat
Quarter Quilting, Fast, Fun, Done by Sue Penn.
Joyce began making blocks for the quilt but was
unable to continue. Her friends made this quilt
their priority and completed the piecing and
quilting all in one week. Joyce was able to
approve the quilt and we are proud to share
“Joyce’s Ever Blooming Friendship Garden Quilt”
for a Relay fundraiser.”

The quilt that was made was beautiful and no matter how she felt and how sick she was she refused to believe she would succumb to cancer. She always tried to be positive and her quilting gave her an excellent outlet to take her mind off her disease. She loved her family and her pets and she died at home surrounding by her husband, who cared for her throughout her illness and her dogs.

I hope you can print the picture of the quilt for her memorial, I think it would make her very happy and it would be a fitting tribute to a very dedicated quilter.

Thanks, Mickey
