Memorial services for John Dwight Burns, 69, of Kensington were held from Simmons chapel in Kensington, Thursday, Dec. 10, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Lawn Sauer officiating.
..Mary Anthony was soloist, accompanied by Juanita Bierman. Raymond Thomm, Homer Brunow, Harry Bane, Cloyd Casteel, Albert Loreen and Guy Hannan were pallbearers. Interment was in Olive Branch cemetery.
..John Dwight Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Burns, was born on a farm northeast of Kensington, Jan. 23, 1895, and departed this life Dec. 7, 1964, at Smith County Memorial hospital in Smith Center.
..While he was a small lad his parents moved to a farm two and one half miles southeast of Kensington. There he grew to manhood, attending a rural school.
..He was a veteran of World War I, going into military service when he was 22 years of age.
..After returning from military service, he farmed for several years, then worked on construction jobs until his retirement a few years ago. He retired to his home in Kensington.
..His friendly greetings and his thoughtfulness for others will be greatly missed.
..Mr. Burns is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Opal Dodson of Smith Center, Letha Russell of Wichita, Evelyn Steele of Colby; Jim Burns of Clayton, and Ernest Burns of Holton; nephews, nieces and other relatives. Many friends will miss him, his greetings and his encouraging words.
