She was born on November 21, 1910, in East Bank, WV, daughter of the late William Francis and Roberta Lee Jarrett Brannen.
She graduated from East Bank High School in 1929. She was employed at The Pure Oil Company Refinery at Cabin Creek from August, 1929, to September, 1940. She was married October 12, 1935, to Russell Carlton Smith. Both were baptized and united with the Hampton Baptist Church at East Bank in May, 1936. They moved to Danville, WV, September, 1940, where they united with the First Baptist Church. She retired from the Danville Lumber Company in July, 1977, after 33 years service. Willie Frances moved to Ravenswood in August, 1977, where she united with the Calvary Baptist Church. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Ravenswood Women's Club. Everyone appreciated her gift of music and she enjoyed being the church organist.
Surviving is her son, William Hollister Smith, Wichita, Kansas; two grandsons, and two great grandsons. Preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Russell C. Smith, March 15, 1969.
Services were held on Saturday, December 20, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenswood, with Reverend Fred Basnett and Reverend Alivn Cox officiating. Burial followed in Boone Memorial Park in Madison, WV, at 2:30 p.m. Friends visited Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on Friday, December 19, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
