MADISON – Russell Carlton Smith, owner and operator of Smitty's Hardware and Wigley's Grocery in Madison, died Saturday in Boone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smith, 58, of Danville, Boone County, was one of the organizers of the Danville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville, the National Archery Association and past president of the Madison Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Frances; son, Sgt. William Hollister Smith of Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Danville, with the Rev. George K. Keller and The Rev. Everett L. Branham officiating. Burial, with rites by the Danville Volunteer Firemen, will be in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
Friends will be received after 6 p.m. today at the Hunter and Hunter Funeral Home here.
