US Army WW IIRussell, 94, of Lansing passed away in Delta Township, Eaton Co., MI. He was the son of Jake R. and Myrtilla (Treat) Smith.

Russell was a retired auditor for the State of Michigan, Dept. of Treasury; a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, and a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #8.

He is survived by his step-daughter Marilynn (Martin) Campbell of Lansing; step-son, Bruce (Junell) Austin of Agua Dulce, TX, and son Dennis F. Smith of Lansing; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lulu "Lou", son Russell R. Smith, and sister Pauliene Ertman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Simple Elegance AFC and Grace Hospice for their compassionate care.

Memorial services were held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge, with Military Graveside services to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lansing or St. Casimir Church, Lansing in memory of Russell Smith.
