U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1904 and was principal of Vernon High School New York (1904-10). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1911 and commenced to practice law in Utica, New York. He was the Oneida County sheriff's attorney in 1913 and corporation counsel for Utica City in 1914. He served as president of the Whitesboro Board of Education (1925-33) and was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third and Seventy-fourth Congresses, serving (1933-37). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he continued the practice of law until his death.
