Mrs. Swanna Oberia Ashworth Walker, 94, of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at New Union United Methodist Church where she attended, with Rev. Neil Crowell and Johnny Harvell officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, NC, Mrs. Walker was born September 24, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Joel Addison Ashworth and Swannie Alene Spoon Ashworth. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She lived a simple life and always thought of others before herself. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. She also loved old-time bluegrass music. For many years she and her husband, Wade, hosted bluegrass music gatherings with their family and friends. She was also an avid NASCAR fan, pulling for Dale Earnhardt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Wilson Walker, and her sister, Christine Walker.

Mrs. Walker is survived by son, Mark Walker, and wife Brenda, of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Alison Walker; grandson, Zane Walker; nephew, Larry Walker, and wife Patty; great niece, Christina Garrison, and husband, Neal; great nephew, Johnny Walker.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mark and Brenda Walker, 1274 Ashworth Road Ext, Asheboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the New Union United Methodist Church, 1293 Union Church Road, Asheboro, NC 27205, or to the Cedar Grove Community Center, c/o Clayton Craven, 2248 Old NC Highway 49 South, Asheboro, NC, 27205.

The family would like to thank the sitters who helped care for her, including Terri Gooch, Pam Seabolt, Rachael Brown, Betty Hunt and Veronica Hatfield, and the staff at Randolph Hospital. A special thanks is extended to all of the staff at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, especially Brenda Harris and Tyler Speagle.
