Vernie O.A. Chamness, 83, of Arab died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Marshall Medical Center North.

Mr. Chamness was the son of Ollie Robert and Roxie Kirkland Chamness and married to Patsy Wilma Chamness, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Jacky and Joan Chamness, Bobby Chamness, Johnny and Karen Chamness and Rommie Chamness of Arab and Roger Chamness of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren: Calette Orr, Amy Bailey, Kym Rankin, Douglas Chamness, Devin Chamness, Dustin Chamness, Michael Chamness, Daniel White, Jana Bannister, Shea Chamness and Alan Chamness; 15 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law: the Rev. Robert and Verta Lou Chamness of Arab; and special caregiver: Teresa Daniel.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at Carr Funeral Home, with Ryan Childers and Andy Brown officiating. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery, with Carr Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Douglas Chamness, Devin Chamness, Dustin Chamness, Michael Chamness, Alan Chamness and Daniel White.
