J. Clifford McNally was a member of the Allegheny County bar. He was appointed probate judge at Salt Lake City, Utah. He entered the Consular Service and served in Bogotá, Guatemala City, and other posts. He died at the Hotel Ostend in Atlantic City. According to his obituary published in The New York Times, he was broken down in health from overwork during World War I, when he served in Straßburg [sic] and Zurich.

Based on his Baptismal record, he was born in 1863, not 1865. Discrepancy with date on gravestone.
