Funeral services were held Tuesday at Orange City, Iowa, for Mrs. H. Colenbrander, 71, wife of the Rev. H. Colenbrander, pastor of the First Reformed Church there. Mrs. Colenbrander was killed last Thursday night in an automobile accident near Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Services were held from the First Reformed Church with interment in the Orange City Cemetery.

Mrs. Jan Van Oostveen, wife of the Rev. Jan Van Oostveen, and the former Esther Joan Stientjes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stientjes of Doon, was also killed in the same accident.

The accident occurred while the party was returning to Cooksville, Ontario, Canada, after having been out to dinner. The Rev. and MRs. Colenbrander, and Rev. and Mrs. Van Oostveen and their two children were in one car. They were driving in a blinding snow storm when their car swerved adn was hit by an oncoming auto. Rev . and Mrs. Colenbrander were in the backseat and Rev. and Mrs. Van Oostveen and the two children were in the front seat.

Mrs. Van Oostveen died almost instantly and Mrs. Colenbrander died en route to a hospital. Rev. Colenbrander suffered bruises, 4 fractured ribs and a bad knee injury. Rev. Van Oostveen and two children received no major injuries.

There was one person in the other car who escaped with no apparent injuries and neither of the two cars were damaged extensively.

The Rev. and Mrs. Colenbrander had gone to Cooksville, Ontario, on Monday, where the Reverand was to take part in the dedication services on Wednesday and Thursday of the new Reformed Church there, of which Rev. Van Oostveen was pastor. He was to conduct a service in the Holland language Thursday evening.

Rev. Colenbrander returned to Orange City, Saturday, coming by way of Sioux City and by ambulance to the Orange City Hospital, accompanied by his son Paul Colenbrander and elder Joe De Vries, who had gone to Canad by plane Friday. He was able to be home for awhile Monday, and attended the services Tuesday.

Rev. Mr. Colenbrander recently announced his retirement plans at Orange City effective this summer when he would have completed 35 years as pastor. The Colenbranders were married 44 years.

Mrs. Colenbrander is survived by the widower; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Vermeer of Sioux Center and Mrs. Harold Paekel of Orange City; two sons, Rev. Harold Colenbrander of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Paul Colenbrander, coach of Northwestern College at Orange City.
