Narcissus Neff was born Sep 1841 in Ohio, the daughter of Meredith Neff and Lydia Z. Nichols. Her first husband was Thomas Jefferson Lucas which resulted in one son, Harry Lucas. Her second husband was Theodore Bell which resulted in four children; Laura Bell, William Revin Bell, Rollie Edgar Bell and Estella Bell. All five children were living in 1900.

1850 US Census has her given name as Carawanarcissa. Later census records have the spelling as Narcissas or Narcissua.
