U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1818, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1821 and commenced to practice law in Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1841, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh and Twenty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1845. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired from public service and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death at age 72.
