Graveside services for Bryant J. Alford of Athens [Henderson Co.] are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler. Local arrangements are under the direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home of Tyler.
Mr. Alford was born November 18, 1908, to the late Robert H. and Helen H. Alford in Texarkana, and was the youngest of seven children.
In 1926, he went to work for Texas and Pacific Railroad. He also worked for the Cotton Belt and Southern Pacific Railroads for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie Garrett Alford, after 49 years of marriage. They were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Tyler.
Survivors include his son, Bobby R. Alford, M.D. of Houston; daughter, Pat Alford Scott, of Murchison; six grandchildren, Brad, Raye Lynn and Scott Alford of Houston, Debbie Lane of Dallas, Pam Shown of San Antonio, and Holly Roland of Murchison; and eight great-grandchildren, Brice Alford, Savannah and Linleigh Alford of Houston, Jordan and Taylor Lane of Dallas, Will and Cody Shown of San Antonio and Sydney Roland of Murchison.
Honorary pallbearers will be W.C. Hogenson, Harold Lauchlin, J.E. Brown, Marshall Hamil and Richard Burton.
