U.S. Congressman. Educated in surveying, he taught school in Goshen, New York, (1813-15) and was employed as a surveyor Havana, New York, (1815-25). He also engaged in mercantile pursuits and was justice of the peace for Havana, New York, (1836-38). He served as judge of the court of common pleas of Chemung County, New York, (1839-46) and justice of the peace for Catherine, New York. In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. After leaving Congress, he resumed his mercantile pursuits until his death.
