Funeral services for Charles R. Bowley of South LaGrange, were held in the chapel of the Craig Funeral home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Ernest C. Flood pastor of the Old Town Methodist Church officiated. Mr. Bowley 73, died last Tuesday morning in a Portland hospital after being stricken with a sudden illness Friday in Cumberland. He was a former resident of Old Town, where he had resided at 25 Fifth Street. Mr. Bowley was born in Alton, October 17, 1885 the son of Frank and Elsie (Spencer) Bowley. His wife, Mrs. Pearl Bowley attended Alton schools, Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston and Shaw Business College, Bangor. He was employed as station agent and opperaterr for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad at South Lagrange at the time of his death. He had been previously employed by the Maine Central Railroad in the same capacity at Old Town and Thorndike. He was a member and past master of Unity Lodge, AF and AM of Thorndick, and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Thorndick, the Elks Lodge of Millinocket and the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. He was also a former member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge of Unity and of Anah Temple of order of the Mystic Shrine of Bangor. Surviving are two sons, Edmund H. of Old Town and Charles R. of Millinocket, one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Cook, East Millinocket, one sister, Mrs. Laura Avery of Milo, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Masonic service with committal were conducted by Star in the East Lodge No. 60 AE and AM of Old Town, with Horace A. Pratt as acting worshipful master and Frankling K. Chapman as acting Chapelin. Active bearers were J. Milton Harvey, George F. Stormann; Raymond Washburn, Warren Morgan and Paul E. West. Interment was in the family lot in Alton cemetery.
