MRS. SUSAN JANE BLACK - Wife of Captain John H. Black, died at her home in Duncansville at 12:40 this morning after an illness of two weeks' duration. The deceased had not been in good health for some time, but no one surmised that the end was so near or that her illness was of a serious nature. She was born, reared, married and lived all her life in the house where now lie her mortal remains. She was born July 21, 1837. On the 3rd of April, 1864, she and Captain Black were united in the holy bonds of matrimony and have for 44 years and one week, lived most happily together. About two weeks after their marriage the captain, who had re-enlisted in the Union army returned to the field of action. In 1865 Mrs. Black was summoned to Harper's Ferry where her husband who had been severely wounded was a patient in a private house. A couple of weeks afterwards they returned and have never been away from each other since. She was a devoted member of the Methodist church all her life. She was of a remarkably affectionate, sympathetic and charitable nature. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Miss Carrie May and Mrs. Eugene Kelly, both of that place. Funeral services at the house on Monday afternoon at 2:30 to be conducted by her pastor Rev. F. Grant Sleep after which internment will be made at the Carson Valley
cemetery.
