Loudon received his appointment in the Confederate States Army on 29 September 1861 as a Captain. He was mustered on 11 December 1861 at Camp Moore, Tangipaho, Louisiana in Caompany B, 19th Louisiana Infantry. He was promoted on 15 July 1862 to Major and then promoted on 17 March 1863 to Lt. Colonel. He was killed at Chickamauga.
