SPARTA - Charles "Dave" Batson Sr., 71, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, in Belleville Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in Winkle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Downard officiating.
Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, and from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of arrangements.
Charles was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Makanda Township to Abner Alexander Batson and Mary Huckelberry.
He married Donna Bilderback on Sept. 30, 1977, in Winkle.
He worked at Illinois Central Rail Road. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Winkle. He was past president of the Lion's Club and Sparta Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Batson of Sparta; sons, Charles D. (Carrie) Batson Jr. of Brokenarrow, Okla., Robert Andrew (Lisa) Batson of Chester, James R. (Chrissy) Batson Jr. of Steeleville, Sean T. (Ashley) Tanner of Keller, Texas, Michael (Caryn) Tanner of Lenexa, Kan. and Joseph D. Tanner of Boulder, Colo.; sisters, Marilyn L. Roberts of Pinckneyville; brother, James Batson Sr. of Pinckneyville; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Phyllis Gray.
