Many Officials Attend Hatfield Funeral Rites
NEWMAN, Stanislaus Co. - AP - A host of state dignitaries gathered here today for the funeral of State Senator George J. Hatfield, a former lieutenant governor and one of California's leading Republicans. Services for the 66 year old Hatfield, who died of a heart attack in Palo Alto Sunday, were conducted in the Davis-Hansen Chapel here. Governor Goodwin J. Knight headed the delegation of state officials. Hatfield, who was almost assured of election as the new president pro tem of the senate, served in that body since 1943 as a representative of Merced and Madera Counties. Hatfield ranch employes were pallbearers. Senate members formed a guard of honor at the graveside in the Sunnyside Cemetery in nearby Stevinson. [Fresno Bee Republican, Wed., 18 Nov 1953, pg. 18A]

Newman, Calif. - Funeral was held Wednesday for state Sen. George J. Hatfield, onetime lieutenant governor of California and Republican Party leader. The service was in Davis-Hansep Chapel, here, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, near the 66-year-old legislator's "Flying H" ranch at Stevinson. Hatfield, who died of a heart attack, Sunday, in Palo Alto, served as lieutenant governor from 1934 to 1938 and represented Madera and Merced Counties in the Senate for the past 10 years.
