James Baird, 56, of Frankfort, SD, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield after a four year battle with cancer.
Jim was cremated and his memorial service will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Jim's wishes were to have his ashes spread at the farm near Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, Jim's family requests memorials be directed to the Northern Plains Hospice or Redfield Community memorial Hospital and Clinic Foundation. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
James C. Baird was born in Redfield on October 31, 1954 to Stanley and Shirley (VanHouten) Baird. He was raised on the family farm near Frankfort and attended grade school through 2nd grade at Frankfort Public School and then graduated from Redfield High School in 1972. He attended Black Hills State College and Northern State College. He worked in various food service and retail sales positions over the years.
Jim enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles and cooking. The family always looked forward to coming home and eating Jim's homemade pies.
Jim is survived by his sister Janet Baird of Mesa, AZ; and five brothers: Kevin (Dar) Baird of Cavour, SD; Kerry (Dawn) Baird of Redfield; Dennis (Kathy) Baird of Brentford, SD; Steven (Judy) Baird of Frankfort; and Robert (Susan) Baird of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by nieces: Jennifer (Donnie) Joyce, Starla Baird, Emily (Brian) Mader and nephews: Tanner Baird, Eric Baird, Mason Baird and his great niece Keira.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, in 1968, his father, Stanley, in 2009, his step mother Jean Stanley Baird in 1986 and his grandparents Paul and Alice Baird and Peter and Esther VanHouten.
