The Rev. Stanley J. Zolnierzak, 87, pastor emeritus of St. Hilary Church, Washington, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He resided at St. John Vianney Manor in Crafton. He was born November 17, 1910, in Braddock, a son of Frank and Stella Lelinski Zolnierzak. He attended Sacred Heart School, Braddock, and graduated from Duquesne Prep School in 1928. He received his bachelor's degree from Duquesne University in 1932 and was ordained into the priesthood at St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, by Bishop Hugh Boyle on June 14, 1936. He served as parochial vicar (assistant pastor) at St. Hilary from 1936 to 1937. He served at St. Josaphat in Pittsburgh from 1937 to 1942 and at St. Mary, New Kensington, from 1942 to 1946. From 1946 to 1948, he was past pastor of three parishes in the Indiana County communities of Iselin, Aultman and McIntyre. He was pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Natrona Heights, from 1948 to 1958. Father Zolnierzak became pastor of St. Hilary after the death of the Rev. Andrew Zapora in a rectory fire in 1958, and served until his retirement in 1986. He was only the third pastor in the parish's history and was responsible for building the present church, which was dedicated in 1967. The parish convent, which is now the rectory, also was built during his pastorate. Surviving are one brother, Edward Zolnierzak, and three sisters, Cecelia Owen, Mary Blasik and Irene Bielec, all of Pittsburgh, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Chester and Henry Zolnierzak, are deceased.
