Pioneer Woman Is Dead
,iMrs. Robert Ives Lee Came to Topeka in 1870
Mrs. Robert Ives Lee, 72, died at her home, 1512 College avenue, yesterday morning. Death resulted from heart disease from which she had been ill the week before Christmas.
Mrs. Lee was born in Kimberton, Pa., December 31, 1853. She was a descendant of Col. Richard Kimber, who commanded a regiment of horse under Cromwell in the Parliamentary wars. She, accompanied by her two sisters, Mrs. William H.H. Dorney and Mrs. David F. Blandin and her brother, Emmor Kimber, came to Topeka in 1870. Her father was a government official during the Civil war and during President Grant's administration.
She was married to the late Robert Ives Lee, March 31, 1880, who had established his home at "Prairie Dell" farm, formerly the Pottawatomie Baptist mission, four miles west of Topeka. Mr. Lee's stable of standard bred trotters at one time was probably the best in the Missouri valley. Title to the farm was retained by the Lee estate until a few months ago.
Since Mr. Lee's death in Chicago in 1911, Mrs. Lee had lived at her home on College avenue. She was a charter member of the West Side Forestry club.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Lee Van Horn and Miss Anna Louise Lee; a son, Thomas Amory Lee; and three grandchildren, Thomas Lee Van Horn, Barbara Lee and Mary Lee.
Funeral services will be at Grace cathedral at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
