"Honest John" Imlay, 84, passed away peacefully at his home with his family on December 21, 2001.

He was born in Hurricane, Utah on November 12, 1917 to James Wilson and Ada Spendlove Imlay. John spent twelve years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, worked as a barber, and then as a truck driver for Salt Lake County.

He is survived by his wife Theda; a daughter, Ann Imlay-Spangler; son-in-law, Michael Spangler; a sister, Luetta Imlay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He loved people, antique cars, gardening, the desert, and the open road. His extended family and large circle of friends will remember him for his kind heart, smiling gentle nature, selflessness, great stories, and warm hugs. At this time, many Americans are being called, rightfully so, heroes. For John's family and friends, he has always been a hero to us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2001 in the Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary Chapel, 255 South 200 East. Friends may call on Friday, December 28, 2001 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
