BEAMAN, NAOME TEREZA HEDLUND - born, May 3, 1924 in Recife Brazil of Swedish parents, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at home. She was preceded in death by her father, W. Samuel Hedlund and her mother Viktoria Larsson Hedlund; and by her husband Clarence Beaman, Jr.; her sister Lillian Hedlund and brother-in-law Frank L. Kerr, Jr. Naome was devoted to her faith, family, and friends; and had a positive influence on everyone she met. She graduated from Institute Pedro II, Sao Paulo, Brazil, studied at Institute Nilo Pesana, Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and attended school in Stockholm, Sweden. She served as linguist for General Ralph H. Wooten of the U.S. Army Forces in the South Atlantic during WWII. Naome was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church and Cherokee Country Club. She was active in the Knoxville Symphony, Dulin Gallery of Art, Knoxville Museum of Art and the National Foundation of the March of Dimes. She was appointed to the White House Commission on Aging and formally served on the Executive Board of the John T. O'Conner Senior Citizens Center and the Teen Board of Knoxville. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 3316 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Frank L. Kerr, Jr., Alan Kerr, Stanley Kerr, Sam Tate, Patrick Martin, Tuck Tucker, and Chris Kerr will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers: John Walker, Henry Walker, Lee Beaman, Ed Jeffries, Bob Jeffries, Al Tate, Josh Jeffries, and Sonny Trotter.
