Death of Mr. Siler - another Confederate veteran answered the last roll call when death came suddenly Thursday morning to Mr. Thomas S. Siler. He had been in his usual health and on Wednesday afternoon came into town from the home of his son Mr. Jacob Butler Siler to spend the summer with his daughter Miss Hattie Siler. He complained of feeling somewhat unwell in the early portion of the night, but his condition excited no alarm. In the early morning his strength began to fail rapidly and he died about eight thirty. Mr Siler was close to his eighty second birthday. He served faithfully throughout the Civil War and returned to Haywood at its close where he made his home. He was a surveyor of note, having plotted more land in this section than any other man. His acquaintance was a wide one and he numbered his friends by the score. He was predeceased by his wife Louisa Josephine Herren. Surviving him are the following children; Mr. J.B. Siler, Miss Hattie Siler, Mrs. George D. Sherrill, Mrs H.B. Freeman, Mr. Archie Siler. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon by Rev. A V Joyner.
