John E. Spencer, 93, formerly of Waynesboro, died Sunday at 2:35 p.m. at Avalon Manor near Hagerstown.

He had been in failing health for the past year and a guest at Avalon Manor since June 2.

He was born November 11, 1874, at Smithsburg, the son of the late Hiram and Melinda (Royer) Spencer.

Mr. Spencer was a woodworker and was employed by Frick Co. for many years.

He was a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church, Waynesboro.

His wife, the former Virginia E. Embly, died August 11, 1962.

Surviving are these children, Sherwood Spencer, Charleston, W. Va.; Mrs. Evelyn Finniff, Wildwood, N. J.; Clarence A. Spencer, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Paul Shank, Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Jennie Parncutt, Pasadena, Md.
