Mabel was born in Sebewa Township, the second of nine children born to Elias and Lucinda (Wilson) York. She married to Fred Scheurer, Jr., of Orange, at the LeValley church parsonage on 17-May-1919. After their marriage they resided on the groom's farm, three miles north of the Coleman church. Mabel taught the Coleman school for several terms and it was while living in the neighborhood that she met Mr. Scheurer. "She is one of several daughters who have helped their father on the farm during school vacations at the same time keeping up with their studies."

They were parents of three children.

Mabel died unexpectedly at her home early Saturday morning in Orange township. She was a member of LeValley United Methodist church. Surviving are a son Ford of Ionia and two daughters, Mrs. Theron Slade of Dimondale and Mrs. Adam Rogozinski of Lansing; 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; five sisters.
