" MRS RACHAEL A JONES, AGED RESIDENT OF OWEGO SUCCUMBS
"Owego, Sept. 24--Mrs. Rachael A. Jones died at the home of E. R. Spaulding, 137 North avenue, Monday night at the age of eighty-five years. She was the widow of John W. Jones of Elmira and had lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Spaulding until the death of the latter several years ago and had since made her home with Mrs. Spaulding. She was the daughter of Peter and Johanna Swaler [sic] and was born in Columbus, Pa., in June, 1835. She was a woman of unusually fine character and was held in high esteem in a large circle of friends she had gained during her life in Owego. Her sister, Mrs. M. C. Lush of Elmira, is her only immediate survivor. The Rev. Warren C. Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct a prayer service at the Spaulding home at 11 a.m. Thursday and the body will be taken to Elmira, where the funeral will be held in the Woodlawn Cemetery chapel at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Abbott officiating."
