Sarah Jerusha Thompson was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dr. James and Lucy (Bigelow) Thompson. Her family lived in Chautauqua County, New York (1850 Census) for a time where her sister, Annette was born. Between 1850-1860, she moved with her parents to Rollingstone, Minnesota. Her youngest sister, Minnie, was born there. Sarah married Nicholas Henry Stoos on March 10, 1863 in Winona County, Minnesota. They later lived in Rice County, Minnesota where their eight children were born.
