Civil War US Congressman. An Ohio layer, he served as a District Judge for the 8th District (Akron) until that office was eliminated due to a State Constitutional reform. He was elected to represent Ohio's 18th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1853 to 1855. He initially sought re-election to the seat, but withdrew his candidacy before the election. During the Civil War he again ran for Congress, and was elected to represent Ohio's 14th District, serving from 1863 to 1865. He was unsuccessful for re-election this time, having been defeated by Congressman Martin Welker. He died in Wooster, Ohio in 1868.
