Nativity Indiana.
Enlisted Aug. 9, 1862 into Co I 29th Iowa Infantry.
Mustered Aug. 20, 1862 Council Bluffs,Iowa. Wounded; leg amputated July 4, 1863, Battle of Helena, Ark.
Died of wounds July 26, 1863, Memphis, Tenn.
No burial site listed. Assume Memphis Nat Cemetery.

At Battle of Helena over 10,000 Confederates attacked the Union defenses. Although outnumbered over 2 to 1 the Union still held the ground at the end of the day.
