Coral Alice (Amspacker) Bray, daughter of Lemmett L. and Estella Davis Amspacker, was born May 19, 1912, on a farm seven miles north of Glasco, Kan. She died May 14, 2010, at the age of 97 years, 11 months and 25 days at the Mount Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, Kan.
She spent her entire life in the Glasco/Concordia area except for two years in her early life spent at Boulder, Colo., and several years after her marriage spent in Topeka. She graduated from Welcome, a rural school north of Glasco, and from Glasco High School. She worked as a waitress at cafés in Concordia until she married Glen Billie Bray on May 9, 1938. To their union three children were born: Olin Edward and wife Diane, Lakewood, Colo.; David Kay and wife Paulette, Craig, Colo.; and Judea Gay Jones, Idaho Falls, Ida. After living in Topeka for several years, they returned to a farm south of Concordia and lived and farmed there until retirement. In 1978 they moved to Concordia. She could now devote long loving hours to her favorite pastime of doing needlework and piecing quilts together. She loved playing pitch and was an excellent player. She loved spending time with family and baking. Her bread, cinnamon rolls and pies were relished by all. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Glasco.
She is survived by her children; five grandchildren; and six great-grandsons: Travis and wife Andrea Bray and sons Devin and Tayven; Amber and husband Mike Toole and sons Torin, Liam and Quinlan; Erik and wife Lacy Bray and son Kolbe; Brandi Jones and Cass Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Oscar, Lowell and Lloyd Amspacker; five sisters, Neva Flewelling, Anna Grittman, Vera Henning Horn, Gwen Henning and Ella Richard; and son-in-law, Robert D. Jones. She was a kind and loving wife and mother. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be sadly missed by all.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Glasco, Kan., with Dolores Bliese officiating. Burial will be in the Glasco Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Lung Association. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS 66901.
