Capt. William H. Cartter served during the Civil War with the United States Marine Corps.
His wife's name is Lilah, and his death date is Nov. 13, 1904.
The Marine Corps historical magazine "Fortitudine", Fall of 1986, Volume XVI, Number 2, page 4, indicates Lt. William H. Cartter participated at the Battle of First Bull Run. Cartter was promoted to Capt. on June 10, 1864.
