Funeral for MAJ (Retired) Harry J. Mahoney, 89, Lawton will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Beavers, senior pastor officiating. MAJ Mahoney died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Lawton. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. He was born February 7, 1923 in Bonanza, Colorado to Thomas and Meta Mahoney. He was raised in Bonanza and Telluride, Colorado attending Telluride schools. He married Beth M. Trent on January 19, 1945 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was the first draftee out of San Diego County during World War II and received a direct commission in 1948. He served twenty two years of active duty. He served in the Pacific Theater of operations. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. After he retired from the Army he worked for 22 years with Civil Service at Fort Sill as head of the transportation office where he received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service and The State of Oklahoma Senate Citation for Outstanding Transportation Service. He retired from Civil Service in February 1985. He was active in the Pecan Grove Booster Club and was a founding member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Telluride Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife; Beth, of the home, three children and their spouses; Judy and Mark Wood, Enid, Oklahoma, Mike and Anita Mahoney, Lawton and Barbara and Stanley Nevitt, Enid, Oklahoma, grandchildren and their spouses; Sean and Carrie Mahoney, Casey and Nicole Caddell, Scott Felzien, Aaron Felzien, Meredith and Cody Westfahl, Corey Caddell, Tony Mahoney, Lindsay and Joe Henson and Emily and Chris Robinson, fourteen great grandchildren and three brothers and their spouses; Bob and Ruth, Grizzley Flats, California, Bill and Twylla, Telluride, Colorado and Pat , Lompoc, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Meta and stepmother; Freda and brothers; Franklin and Richard.
