Marie was born Oct. 21, 1924 in Gering to Emery and Mary (Hulbert) Tillotson. She received her early education in the old Dome Rock grade school and graduated in 1943 from Gering High School.
Marie married Herbert (Herb) C. Hinman Dec. 5, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff. Marie lived most of her life in Scotts Bluff County, except for the time spent with her husband when he was in the service in Missouri and Louisiana and the short time in Alliance and Sheridan, Wyo.
Marie was her husband's helpmate and hired man for the two years they farmed before moving to town in 1949. She continued to be her husband's right hand man when they lived in the Hills, helping build the house, cut and haul firewood and take care of the acreage.
Marie worked various jobs in Alliance, Sheridan, Neosho, Mo. and Deridder, La. In the Scottsbluff-Gering area she worked at Terry's Arena Copper Kettle, Ace Hardware, was head of the lunch program at Cedar Canyon School for a year but her favorite job was when she worked for WNCC Cafeteria, starting when they were on 5th Avenue.
Upon retirement Marie and Herb traveled the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii, with many trips to Branson, Mo. Their other adventures included Mexico, Canada and cruises in the Caribbean area.
Marie enjoyed playing baseball as a girl and later became an accomplished bowler, scoring some of the highest scores for women in the area for a couple of years in the 1960s. In later years she enjoyed craft work and collecting porcelain dolls.
Marie was a hardworking wife, mother, homemaker and friend to her husband. She was a great seamstress, cook, crafter and doll collector. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deaconesses for a time.
