Elected to represent Virginia's 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1946 to 1948. Also served as a State Court Judge from 1933 to 1945, Virginia State Attorney General from 1948 to 1957, Governor of Virginia from 1958 to 1962, and Judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals in 1962.
