US Congressman. A 1926 graduate of the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC, he was admitted to the Virginia State Bar Association the same year, and began a law practice in Winchester, Virginia, where he was born. After a two-year term in the Virginia State Senate (1940 to 1942), and a four year term as a Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit (1942 to 1946), he was elected as a Democrat to represent Virginia's 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives in 1945. He would go on to serve eight terms in Congress from 1946 to 1963, declining to run for a ninth term in the 1962 election. He continued to practice law in Winchester, Virginia until his retirement. He passed away there in 1973. His father, Thomas Walter Harrison, represented Virginia’s 7th District in the United States House of Representatives as a Congressman from 1916 to 1929.
